Buying a unisex hoodie in women’s sizes

How to style a plus-size hoodie
Hoodies are the easiest layer in a wardrobe, and the same rules apply at every size:
- Layer it. A hoodie under an open overshirt, a denim jacket or a long coat looks finished.

Details to look for in a plus-size hoodie
The same small details that make any hoodie last matter just as much from 1X up:
- Rib cuffs and hem with spandex. Gildan describes its 18500’s rib as made with spandex for stretch and recovery, so cuffs spring back after you push them up.
- A double-lined hood. It holds its shape and adds warmth around the neck.
- A deep pocket. A kangaroo pocket on a pullover, or two hand pockets on a zip-up.

- Length. Check where the hem lands: at the hip, below it, or cropped above it.
Off the shoulder, cropped or long?
An off-the-shoulder sweatshirt has a wide neckline that slips to one side, often worn over a tank or a bralette with straps showing. A cropped hoodie sits at the waist and pairs with high-rise bottoms. A long or tunic hoodie covers the hip and works with leggings. All three are about the cut, and all three come from 1X up; pick the one that matches how you already like to dress.

Frequently asked questions
Are unisex hoodies sized like men's?
Usually. Unisex blanks such as Gildan's 18500 are sold in a chest-based run from S to 5XL, like men's tops. Take your bust measurement and find the unisex size whose chest range covers it.
What size hoodie is a women's 2X?
Dia & Co lists 2X as US 18/20 with a 47 to 49 inch bust; Nike's 2X is cut for a 49 to 53 inch bust. On a unisex chart, a 47 to 49 inch bust usually lands at 2XL.
Do cropped hoodies come in plus sizes?
Yes. A cropped hoodie is simply a shorter hem, and plus-size versions are sold from 1X up. Check the body length in the listing so you know where the hem lands.
Should I size up in a hoodie?
Only if you want a slouchier look. For your usual fit, check the bust or chest in the chart. For an intentionally roomy look, an oversized cut adds room without changing your size.
