Tall Hoodies for Men: LT to 5XT, and How Much Longer They Run

Tall hoodies keep the chest of the regular size and add length to the sleeves and body. At Westport Big & Tall, a 3XT has the same 54 to 56 inch chest as a 3XB but a 38/39 inch sleeve instead of 34/35. American Tall’s 3XL Tall hoodie runs 32 inches long with a 40 inch sleeve.

Which hoodies come in tall sizes?

From each maker’s own size list:

• Champion Powerblend Hoodie, Big & Tall: LT, XLT, 2XLT and 3XLT.
• Carhartt Loose Fit Midweight Sweatshirt (K121): tall sizes from L to 3XL.
• Westport Big & Tall: tall sizing from LT to 5XT on its chart.
• American Tall: tall and extra tall hoodies, with body length on the chart.

Big tall: when you need both

Big tall sizes such as 3XLT or 4XT add both width and length. On Westport’s chart they keep the big chest, 58 to 60 inches at 4XT, with the tall sleeve. Signs you need a tall hoodie

• The chest fits, but the cuffs stop above the wrist when your arms are at your sides.
• The hem rides above your belt when you reach up or bend.
• You buy a size up for length and then find the chest and shoulders too wide.
• Your shirts are already tall sizes.

If two or more sound familiar, tall sizing is likely the fix, and big tall if the chest is also tight.

Matching tall pants and sweatpants

Tall sizing usually runs across a whole brand. Westport notes that for pants or shorts sold in “Long” and “Regular”, the Long length corresponds to its Tall sizing and Regular to its Big sizing. So if a tall hoodie fits you, the long or tall version of the same brand’s pants is the place to start for a matching set.

Tall hoodies as gifts

A tall hoodie is one of the most appreciated gifts for a tall person, because ordinary hoodies so rarely reach the wrist. If you are buying for someone else, check the label of a shirt or hoodie they wear: a T after the size, such as XLT or 3XT, tells you they already buy tall.
